About Erica Lansner

Best known for her portraiture and portrayals of everyday life around the world, Erica Lansner brings to her work a sense of emotional immediacy and a vision that is both informal and bold.

An award-winning photojournalist, she has traveled to more than 35 countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa on assignment for leading international magazines and corporations, and has documented both large and small events that have shaped the world.

After covering the democracy movement in Tiananmen Square in 1989, Lansner joined the Black Star Photo Agency. She later returned to China to document the evolving relationship between modernization and ancient culture, for which she won a Pictures of the Year award.

In the early 1990’s Lansner was based in Paris and Barcelona, where she covered the city’s rise as a European cultural capital on the eve of the Summer Olympics.

Currently based in New York City, Lansner continues to work for numerous editorial, corporate, and non-profit organizations. Whether photographing an artist in the studio, or a conference of hi-tech entrepreneurs in Hawaii, Lansner is in her element when connecting with people in front of the camera. Her compassion and sense of humor are among the many tools she uses to draw out her subjects. Most recently she completed a series of poignant portraits of the elderly for LILY, an organization that helps the elderly remain in their homes as they age.

Lansner also founded PictureRelief, a project devoted to raising money for charity through portraiture. She has held more than 80 portrait sessions and raised over $20,000 - donating all of the proceeds to disaster relief organizations.

A native New Yorker, Erica Lansner was raised in a family immersed in the world of contemporary art and journalism. After graduating with a degree in Art History from Vassar College, she worked at CBS News in New York and Rome before becoming a photographer. She speaks French, Italian and Spanish. In 2021, Lansner joined REDUX PICTURES as a contributing photographer. She is also thrilled to be a mentor at NYCSalt.

CURRENT NEWS, AWARDS AND PUBLICATIONS: Erica Lansner’s photographs of the Black Lives Matter Movement and the Covid-19 pandemic were featured in two exhibitions in New York City.
